« I exercise a lot but have a cholesterol reading of 234 with my HDL’s being 125. My doctor told me not to worry since my HDL reading is great. Isn’t 234 too high? | Main | Does frozen fruit lose any nutritional value over its unfrozen (fresh) equivalent? »

I am trying to lose weight so I walk on the treadmill. I seem to be stuck in a rut because I am not losing weight. I’m frustrated but unwilling to pay a trainer so what should I do?

What I hear you saying is “I keep doing the same thing over and over, it’s not giving me the results I want, I am unwilling to pay an expert to make an assessment, but I want different results.”  This is very close to the classic definition of insanity.  Can you really afford to continue to spend valuable time and energy doing your workout the way you have without getting the results you want?  Exactly when do you plan to make the changes it will take to get the results you want? How much is that worth to you? Are you worth it? I think you are.

A personal trainer is a paid professional who can assess your body composition, along with your personal goals and needs.  Based on that information, a trainer can provide a program that will provide you with the results you seek.  You will also improve the quality of your life.

Being overweight carries a cost as well. If you continue to hang on to excess weight, you may eventually pay another professional to provide care and also spend a lot for medications.

I can tell you from experience that personal trainers are by far the best way to be pushed to and beyond your goals. They are NOT jocks who will just run you ragged. They are one-on-one fitness counselors who are some of the most knowledgeable people in their field and want to help you with what they know. To not be willing to pay for one is to say you are not willing to meet your goal.

It's not really Paying for a trainer. A better way to view it is INVESTING in your health. Make a choice - do you want to spend a couple hundred to learn how to take care of yourself and meet your goals or do you want to pay THOUSANDS in medical and hospital bills because you decided you're not worth the INVESTMENT?

Until YOU, not anyone else decide YOU are worth the INVESTMENT, you're are not going get anywhere, you will continue to hit a wall, and you will pay for your choice later on in THOUSANDS of dollars.

You might think you cannot afford to trainer, but honestly...can you afford NOT to?

The person that has had no luck in reducing wieght and keeps doing the same thing, has reached a homeostatic state. The body got used to what you were throwing at it. All bodies do it, thats the way our bodies work. A person has to change up what it is you are doing. Even if it is running. You can still run but instead of doing a constant distance with a constant speed, do a shorter run of high intensity intervals. Speed workouts are like the weight training of running. You will continue to burn calories way after the running has stopped. Or you can take up a different activity for awhile and enjoy the change of venue and the body will give you back benefits.

Thanks Jim - Right you are!! Thank you for your comment!! If someone can't or won't do this on their own, a personal trainer is exactly what is needed.
