My mother harps on me to eat more garlic. What are the benefits of eating garlic to our health? 

The consumption of garlic is believed to be beneficial in decreasing the risk of developing both colon and stomach cancer. In a review of 19 studies, researchers at the University of North Carolina found that the ingestion of only six cloves of garlic per week decreased the development of stomach cancer by 50% and colon cancer by 30% compared to those who do not consume garlic.  Of course the downside to consuming garlic is it can produce a strong, pungent body odor.  If consuming garlic produces unpleasant side effects, you can exchange onions for garlic since they are in the same family.  While onions can produce bad breath, they don’t seem to permeate the rest of the body quite like garlic.
